STRANGE PARADISE performer
crossovers
compiled by Curt Ladnier
One of the most memorable elements of STRANGE PARADISE is the vivid, often bizarre, characters populating the worlds of Maljardin and Desmondton. These characters were brought to life by a group of actors who are dear to the series’ fans, some who were with the show for its entire run, and others who appeared or left as the story demanded. All of these performers embroider the rich tapestry that is STRANGE PARADISE, but their careers did not begin and end with the series. For those of us interested in examining their work, it is worth noting that, to date, various performers from our favorite supernatural serial have appeared together in at least 40 other productions in television and feature film. It is scarcely a surprise that the actor who has appeared in the most outside vehicles with SP co-stars is series star Colin Fox. He has been seen in no less than 12 separate productions with other SP cast members, including the 1971 supernatural drama The Reincarnate with Jack Creley and Trudy Young. In the case of this film, all three of its SP alums appeared in the series at the same time (one of 26 times such reunions have occurred), but there are also 16 instances of productions which feature former cast members who were not on the show concurrently. The feature film which holds the record for appearances by the most cast members is a 1969 effort entitled Change of Mind, boasting in its credits Cosette Lee, Dan MacDonald, Jack Creley, and Vivian Reis. Similarly, a 1971 television series was a veritable parade of the women of STRANGE PARADISE. PAUL BERNARD, PSYCHIATRIST had as regulars in its line-up Dawn Greenhalgh, Paisley Maxwell, Vivian Reis, and Tudi Wiggins. Of course, it is the nature of their profession that actors’ paths frequently cross, but it is fun to note when favorites from the past have made it to the screen together in other venues. Hopefully, the information on this page will help fans spot
crossovers from their favorite performers. Also, it may be worth commenting that in 1964 Jack Creley appeared in Dr. Strangelove, a 1989 tv movie gave Colin Fox Passion in Paradise, and 1994 found Vivian Reis Trapped in Paradise. Perhaps these actors still can’t shake the Desmond Curse!
